I can't wait to see how everyone has interpreted this theme. It seemed to me an extremely difficult one so I made this very literal illustration. The empress's uncovered umbrella frame shows up a bit better in real life than in this photo. I will say a bit more about it over at
Rainbow Hare.
Such a marvellous idea, and image! I will follow over to your blog to see more!
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
DeleteYour figures are always such fun Janine, they look as though they are having a good old gossip under those lovely umbrellas :)
ReplyDeleteThe umbrellas were very handy I found it a big bonus not to have to do all their faces!
DeleteLove the composition with the curve created by the ladies. Really like the fabric choices too.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ruth. And thank you for choosing this theme. I found it very tricky but it has inspired a wonderful collection of quilts from everyone :)
DeleteOh how sly! The Empress's new umbrella, indeed. (But, perhaps it is merely clear fabric??) This interpretation put a big smile on my face.
ReplyDelete;) Maureen
I think she wishes it was clear fabric :D
DeleteI love your scalloped clouds, they remind me of the multi-colored ones in your last piece. Right up until the end, I was going to borrow that idea to use that idea in my piece :) but then I went in a different direction.
ReplyDeleteI also love that one red polka dot umbrella!
I'd forgotten about the last one. I must make a note to start sewing quilts without clouds...I would actually love a red a red polka dot umbrella myself :)
DeleteThose umbrellas turned out very nicely. It really tells the story, which you do so well, Janine.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Paula :)
ReplyDeleteYour composition is very nicely done. My eyes moved across all the umbrellas and back again. I like the outline of the empress’s umbrella. And the rain!
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
