I had all sorts of ideas right from the beginning, which in the end were abruptly abandoned when I looked from my dining room window into the garden below and saw a beautiful male blackbird sitting in a Cotoneaster bush. Right there was a view representing the beauty and vitality of nature, even in the middle of the city.
So here is my winter blackbird.
You can read more about him on my blog
And I get a feeling of late afternoon, winter sun behind him, too. Birds are such a treasure in winter when everything is so bleak. Yes, a good sign for Nature.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh I love this piece. I can't wait to get over to your blog to read more about this piece. I love everything about the design. The clouds floating across the sun is a great effect.

What a great quilt to start the group challenges Catherine, I love it!
ReplyDeleteSo lovely, a beautiful rendition of a beautiful bird - and that sky!
ReplyDeleteI love the way you've pieced and quilted the sky in those soft hues with accents of golden sun. It is a perfect foil for your blackbird and bush. He is so clear and bright-eyed and vibrant. I feel you've captured the very essence of blackbird in this quilt :)
ReplyDeleteThat’s lovely Catherine! A gorgeous blackbird!

Very nicely done. I would display it in a heart beat. What size is it?
ReplyDeleteThank you :-) It's 13 x 15 inches and so the bird is maybe something like 2/3 life size.
ReplyDeleteI love the crisp clean feeling of your image, and also the way you divided up the circle of the sun in an interesting way!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading about this sweet little inspiration on your blog. I love your rendition of the winter sky and the soft winter sun. The blackbird is so lively and vibrant sitting on his colourful bush, taking in the world around him.

Absolutely stunning! I love all the detail that you added to make the sky.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful - really like the christmassy feel with the green and red and wintry feel with the background.
