I have to admit that though I found the theme a really interesting one to think about I really struggled this time to come up with a quilt. Probably I am not the only one who is finding that the pandemic is starting to take a toll on my mental energy?! In the end, I decided to follow on from last quarter's theme and, thinking about the use of the colour wheel in the garden, make a quilt showing how using opposite colours together can bring each colour to life. Unfortunately my camera is not picking up the glowing oranges and purples of the Oakshott cottons I have used here, and the effect they have in proximity to each other, but here is a cheery bunch of flowers!
I really like the black stitching that gives an informal effect and keeps this feeling light and happy. Simple and appealing and a really lovely background.

DeleteWhat a fun and whimsical piece!
ReplyDeleteThank you :-). Apart from looming deadline panic, it was fun to make!
DeleteThis is a lovely and very stylish piece. I especially like the sophisticated colours (even if they are not quite as good in the photos as in real life), the simple shapes and the black stitches. I too feel the pandemic is taking a toll. It seems to me to have become a bit like living in a time warp with endless 'essential' work and the year spinning by too fast to fit in anything very creative. I really hope we coming towards the end of it now x
ReplyDeleteThanks Janine, me too! x
DeleteI find it so true that even if I don't feel my pieces capture the theme perfectly, I treasure the time spent in process! I really like this little quilt and I am glad it sparked further creativity for you.
ReplyDeleteThank you - I think the time spent in process, out of the normal rut, is one of the lovely things about being in a group!
DeleteSometimes I think things made in great haste turn out to be a fun exercise because there is little room for overthinking. I too had considered riffing off the last challenge and working with opposite colors, so it's fun to see you had the same idea. That little bouquet will make you smile each time you see it, I hope! It's lovely!
ReplyDeleteThank you :-). I really agree with you about the fun to be had when there's no time for overthinking! Having some sort of constraint (deliberate or not) can actually be quite liberating!
DeleteSimple and nice. I love how you used the buttons.

DeleteThe Chinese say either a piece of artwork either has qi ("chee" -vitality) or it doesn't. And if it doesn't, nothing can be done to add it. This little pot of flowers definitely has vitality and movement. It's cheerful even in lockdown. Nicely played!
ReplyDeleteThank you Maureen! What an interesting and lovely way of looking at art. It explains the feeling I sometimes get when I look at a piece of art that is done with great skill, but find it dull and lifeless. It's lacking qi!
