Hello! I decided that, for this quilt, instead of documenting qualities of colours in the external world, I would use some conventional ways of illustrating colour theory to show the colours that letters, numbers and words display in my mind. I was inspired to make this quilt by a lovely book called Werner's Nomenclature of Colours', which was kindly gifted to me by Catherine. I've just been reading your blog post. I think the quilter Jo Avery has a form of colour synaesthesia too - it must add a whole different dimension to art-making. I love this quilt - it is such a fascinating and personal subject, and I think there is something inherently so pleasing and beautiful about charts!

DeleteI love the scale of the colours like little chips and the text draws me in to read more. It's making me wonder what colour I'd choose for Saturday - another way to explore colour in the world. I love the book you were gifted too - so thoughtful.

DeleteThe soft muted-ness of the colors is enormously pleasing as is the layout of this quilt. I am definitely ordering this book! I heard of synesthesia, but never met anyone who "had it," so to speak. It's interesting to learn more about how You perceive and relate to color. (I "feel" colors in the center of my chest.) And my chest was very happy looking at your quilt!

Thank you, Gwen. I should say that only you and Catherine were clever. I was just lucky. When I received that book I thought 'How can it be that this book has been in the world all my life (and obviously much more!) and I never even suspected!'. It was a wonderful gift :)
