Dorothy's House

I'm very excited to see all the spiral quilts that everyone has been making for this challenge.

I recently went to see 'Wicked' with my daughters and I decided to make my quilt for this quarter a sort of remembrance of that occasion, with Dorothy's House inside the cyclone being whisked off to Oz and a spiralling rainbow.

You can read more about my trials and tribulations making this quilt over at Rainbow Hare

  1. You should illustrate a book Janine - your work is just so unique and imaginative! I love that you thought of the spiral for the whirling cyclone in this context and it's very magical!

    1. Thanks, Catherine. I really keep meaning to stop illustrating and make something more abstract and arty - maybe next time!

  3. I love this piece. See how a personal experience inspired this wonderful piece. I love that, and the commentary that you gave on your personal blog about how you created it. One thing I love about this group is that even though I do not have the technical ability of other members, I am encouraged and inspired by the members to carry on and have funny learning to achieve a higher level of skill.

    1. Thank you, Carol. I'm always encouraged and inspired by the other members too - including by you! I tell myself often that if I keep practicing my hand stitching will one day be as neat as yours and I doubt it really ever will be but, as you say it's all about learning and improving our skills over time. I'm very glad we have this group, Janine :) xx

  4. This is a great spiral, I will visit your site to learn how you made it (I'm sure it's your own pattern). And if we all did the same thing, how "boring?" All of the members give me inspiration.

    1. Thank you, Nancy. It really is amazing how we all make such different quilts each time, isn't it. I read through all the posts thinking 'I wish I'd thought of that'. It would be dull if we all made the same :)

  5. Reminded my life just flys out of control sometimes. We just have to hang on, Like the pops of color as it gets closer to the climatic end of the storm.

  7. Oh, Janine! It’s just wonderful! I enjoyed reading how you made it too, over at your blog.
And I totally agree, how exciting it is to see the different ideas we all had and what each of us has made!
