The Sea: Beached

I named this quilt "Beached".
After some deliberation and a try at a large wave, I came up with this quilt.

The lump pictured here is supposed to be a rock (?)

I used found shells, buttons, beads and an mother of pearl cabochon.

The wave is made up of several small cuts of lace and tulle that was sewn together on water soluble stabilizer that was then washed out. The piece was again cut into pieces and arranged into the wave. I also used the tulle to make the small waves.

  1. Beautiful! I could see it was a rock! What a clever use of soluble stabiliser - it's made wonderful foam on the water which looks so effective I feel I could dip my toes in it. You could spend a long time looking at and enjoying all the details here.

  8. This is such a beautiful, restful piece. It really captures the feeling of being at the sea on a Summer's day. Your foam effect is very cleverly created and I love all the details on the sand.

  9. They are awesome. Thanks Catherine. Can you tell me how you got the limpets to stay on the canvas please as I can't see any tiny stitches. Did you glue them on? I love the sea too. I've got many shells I want to attach to work but no idea how. So they end up on canvases with paint instead. (I'm a mixed media tragic).
Stay safe and healthy in these bizarre times, and hopefully your post election era will be smoother for all in this twilight before the new president is inaugurated (is that the word? I'm in Oz.)
