I have always thought that when 'The Sea' theme came up I would illustrate the poem Sea Fever in some way but, now it has I have ended up doing something quite different and much more humble. There was a time a while ago when I wanted to make a quilt using tessellating fish and I have never got around to it so I decided to take the opportunity. The light house is a photo of of a model I made and I drew the sea/fish and coloured them with pens. Then I put them together and printed the picture on fabric. After that I added some machine and hand stitching for detail.
I was hoping to take better photos but the weather has been relentlessly dark and stormy for the past few days.
Today I am going to see my parents as we are locking down from Thursday for at least a month so I will give more details on my blog, hopefully tomorrow. This evening I will visit and see what everyone else has made for this challenge. I do hope you are all staying safe and well and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's quilts :)
(I'm sorry I'm publishing this a little early as I can't see how to schedule anymore)
I love your tessellating fish Janine they are so inventive :)
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
DeleteWhat a fun quilt, and the techniques are so cool. I like the little added details to the fish, and the radiating light from the lighthouse. A nice finish!
ReplyDeleteThank you. I didn't expect the fish to so prominent!
DeleteI love this - my first thought was that you could photograph it and turn it into a greeting card, it's such a charming and striking image. I like the tessellating fish and the 'woven' rays of light!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Catherine. I hadn't noticed the effect of the light was woven but perhaps I will pretend that was planned!
DeleteLove the tessellating fish. The light from the lighthouse is great, I am guessing hand sewn, and straight! Nice.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I drew lines with a frixon pen to get the light stitches straight and then ironed over it to make the pen disappear.
DeleteHow do you think of these things? Absolutely delightful! It could be the cover of a children's book that you write!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Maureen :)
DeleteOh, I love your tessellating fish. Great idea!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Barbara. I originally wanted to make them with different fabrics by piecing or applique but time (as always) overtook me.
DeleteOh, amazing! I agree with everyone else's comments! I especially like the offset stitches portraying the light beam, and the way the lighthouse looks like it has a happy face.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I like the idea of the light house having a happy face :)
DeleteYou do have such clever ideas Janine!
ReplyDeleteLove it all, the lighthouse, not just any lighthouse either, the light emanating from said lighthouse, quilting and all those cute fish! Just brilliant!
Stay safe and well my friend!
Hugs,
Barbara xx
Thank you, Barbara xx
DeleteI love it, so much fun in one quilt and the light house is brilliant too!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ruth. I have been remembering my motto 'choose joy' from your inspiration last time and I did have fun making this :)
