Dream in Colour

When I wake up, I almost never remember my dreams and, even when I do, they are never particularly interesting. I do, however, day dream a lot - mostly about the things I'm going to make if I ever have time.

So I based this quilt around the subtitle of my blog ('Dream in Colour, Create in Fabric, Thread, Yarn, Words, Whatever you have to hand').

It includes some techniques I've dreamt about trying, a section of gilded Orange Peel quilt that I've been dreaming of making for ages and some examples of things I've dreamt of making and then actually made (on the washing line).

And, of course, it includes a caravan as having people actually buy my Sewing Machine Cover pattern was a dream which came true and it also relates to the Granny Square stories, some of which are still only half dreamt up!

A million misadventures have meant my photo here is on a rainy day on the kitchen table but I will post more fully (and perhaps with better photos) on Rainbow Hare during the next few days.

I can't wait to see all the entries for theme :)

  1. This is glorious Janine, I would never have thought that all those patterns and colours would have worked together but they do! Your washing line of completed projects is a particular delight :)

    1. Thank you, Fiona. If they do, that was more luck than judgement! A very great deal of the painting turned out somewhat differently to how I intended :)

  2. I was especially curious to see your quilt for this theme and it really is lovely! It's such a fun image and the different elements are so cleverly composed into the picture.

  3. What a clever interpretation, and a fun way to remember those dreams yet to come (orange peels, etc.). What a fun quilt!

    1. Thank you, Wendy. I don't know if they will ever make it to 'real' quilts!

  4. Thank you. The gold/orange peel section is my favourite. Whether I will ever make a real quilt like that is another question :D

  5. Hi Janine! This is fabulous!
It’s lovely to see a glimpse of the many projects you’ve dreamt of, and worked on in the past in this piece.
I love that you gave us sneak peeks of what you were working on without giving the game away!
Your painting works so very well, but I know I would have been more than a little worried putting it all together, in case something hadn’t worked quite right.
    Well done Janine!
    Hugs,
    Barbara xx

    1. Thank you. Really, I think, there are too many details - it took forever!

  7. This piece is so identifiable as yours. I always love how you add little people to your creations. Everything about his piece is perfection.

    1. Thanks, Carol. I can hardly help myself adding the people but they give me a great deal of trouble and never turn out quite as I hope...

  8. I like the way you interpreted the theme. Reading your list of dreams, made me think of the dreams I have. I hope all our dreams come true.

  9. Janine, this is so very cool. I love that you incorporated the rabbit. It adds such a dream quality to the whole piece -like the rabbit in Alice in Wonderland. Also admire all the colors. Over the years I have been asked if I dream in color. The answer is, of course, yes!

  12. I love the colors! The way you put in so many quilting patterns and the little dresses tell me a lot about you. I especially love the celtic rabbit;)
