Aiming to Quilt Raindrops

Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head
That is The Endeavourers
Art Quilt Challenge theme for the May 1, 2019, reveal.

How can one interpret raindrops in a quilted work?
What emotions do the various types of raindrops evoke in people?

I attempted to show in my quilted piece
raindrops, small, pleasant and warm
perhaps from an unexpected summer shower that will pass quickly.

Raindrops that sparkle and shimmer from the sunlight,
filtered by the sheer drapery of the passing clouds.

Raindrops that delight with the pitter-patter as they lightly fall on the hatted head.

I do hope you are able to sense my interpretation of
Raindrops keep falling on my head.

I explain my design process on my blog.

  1. Hi Nancy!
There is definitely the air of a soft summer shower in your sweet quilt. I can't see the photo clearly -are there sparkly things sews into the drops? And did you free motion quilt the rain?

    1. Maureen, I have glued glass beads on the free motion rain I sewed on the piece. I have a blog post that hasn’t posted yet. I haven’t coordinated that post and The Endeavourers blog to go live st the same time.

  2. Wonderful interpretation, and I agree it's sweet.
I didn't have time to put anything together this month, too much going on.

  3. I love your applique Nancy and you have really captured the sense of a soft day as they call them in Ireland!

  4. Nancy this is lovely! Your sparkly raindrops are so beautiful and I love the way you have captured them splashing on her hat. She looks quite content to be in the rain, and all the little details make a great picture.

  5. I love your Summery lady and sparkling rain. You've really captured the spirit of a Summer shower and reminded me that being out in the rain can be a pleasant experience. It's easy to forget that after an English Winter!

  6. Lovely result. I get that summer feeling alright and I love the way we have all interpreted rain so differently.
