This was a tough theme for me. What is Improv in relation to quilting???
An OCD with a left side thinking brain has a hard time even THINKING improv. So I stitch on using these fabrics and do my thing and ...what the heck.
How bout you guys? Do you think you nailed the theme?
It is a tough theme because there are too many choices! I work within boundaries of shapes and it is hard for me to not want structure. Improv means somewhat unstructured. I will say I am happy with the top I sewed and how I "structured" my project. I am moving on to quilting and hope it enhances the piece. I am looking forward to how everyone handles this theme.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Nancy. To many choices! I think improv is more a way of doing things, wheras the other themes have had a subject to interpret. I basically chose a technique and went with the flow about what it ended up looking like. Being abstract is very out of comfort zone for me because I tend to see stories in things and make my quilts a sort of illustration...I'm looking forward to seeing what you are making with these fabrics :)
ReplyDeleteImprov sounds freeing but like you I struggle with it. I have adopted a similar approach to Janine and have focused on a technique and played with that. I suspect that we will all have had very different approaches to this quarter's theme so it will be great fun reading all of the posts.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing how everyone has dealt with this one :-)
