Color Change

My Challenge Quilt for The Endeavourers was made to show the color change when two transparent colors, such as tissue paper or plastic pieces, overlap one another.

I used fabric pieces that showed 3 different colors.
I marked the stitching lines and shapes with an erasable fabric marking pen. Layered the backing, 2 pieces of polyester batting and the top and stitched on the lines.

The finished quilt measures 16" x 17" and can actually hang from any of the edges.

    1. Thank you very much. It was fun "for a change" to do such tiny quilting, too.

  2. You've captured that transparency effect perfectly and your intricate quilting and the extra puff from your two layers of batting add the perfect extra dimension!

    1. I am going to try more transparencies in the future. I like the effect and challenge of finding the "right" fabrics.

  4. I love the overlapping effect you've created here and your quilting sets it all off beautifully. I also like the way it can be hung from any edge. This is a lovely piece :)

    1. Thank you. I worked on the piece as it is shown in the final photo. But I didn't really know how to hang it...and decided any edge could be the top.

  5. An interesting interpretation. I like the dimension the double batting added to the piece. It makes the quilting so much more interesting. This is a lovely piece.

  6. A great idea! I love how you showed the colours overlapping, and the double batting really highlights your very striking quilting!
I have used double batting when making bags that I wanted to “stand up” by themselves and from experience I can’t help wonder how you were able to stitch your quilting so neatly? Beautifully made! Well done!

    1. Thank you. It is the first time I have double batted a quilted piece. I will say that I applied pressure with my hands very close to the walking foot as I quilted each area. And the water soluble marking pen was a great help.

  7. Transparency as transformation is a great idea. The double batting and linear border really set the whole thing off
